Outdoor Adventure Club
Garrison's Outdoor Adventure Club meets once a week to learn how to safely and responsibly have fun outside. We work on team building and leadership, learn outdoor skills like stove set-up and proper backcountry cooking safety, and will be heading on outdoor excursions further into the semester and warmer months with Whitman Outdoor Program leaders. This club recognizes that responsible outdoor recreation provides positive physical, mental and emotional benefits to our students, and promotes a stronger sense of environmental stewardship.
Minecraft/Age of Empires
Students come in and play Minecraft or Age of Empires on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Game Theory
Students play Risk, Monopoly, Settlers of Catan and many other games to see how the flow of a board game works.  Students then design and create their own.  Students plaint their game board and 3d print their game pieces using a 3d printer.  We meed Tuesdays and Thursdays
Garrison Network News(GNN)
Students read and tell the Garrison News every day.  Staff and students watch every morning as GNN is shown in every classroom.  Students learn what goes into the production of creating an episode every day.

The Moms Network Parent Workshop

April 24, 2015

The Moms’ Network Parent Workshop with Dr. Richard Simon

On Wednesday, May 6th at Garrison Middle School, Dr. Richard Simon, Sleep Medicine Expert, will be speaking on teen sleep patterns, teen sleep needs and the correlation with school start times. “The American Academy of Pediatrics states that sleep deprivation in teens is one of the most common, and easily fixable, public-health issues in the U.S,” states Beth Swanson, President of the Moms’ Network.  “We are excited to have Dr. Simon available to share the research with parents, teachers and school officials so we are better educated on our children’s health.”

Factual information will be provided on how important it is that teens receive the correct amount of sleep for their health and well-being.  We will also discuss Start School Later, an initiative to begin school later in the morning for at least middle and high school students.

The event is part of the 2014-15 Moms’ Network Parent Workshops that provide educational information to strengthen families in the Walla Walla Valley.

The workshop at Garrison Middle School is free, open to the public and will begin at 6:00pm with a family dinner provided by Sweet Basil.  The presentation with Dr. Simon will begin promptly at6:30pm. Child care and Spanish translation is available during the presentation.

For more information about the Parent Workshop or about the Moms’ Network contact Beth Swanson at 509-301-7471 or
