Principal's Message - July 2019

Kim DoepkerDear Garrison Community~

It is an honor and a great pleasure to introduce myself as your new principal!  Middle school years are exciting, rewarding and often times challenging this is why I believe that schools must adhere to the principle that all children will learn.  Thus, working alongside families is both pivotal and critical especially in these middle years.

Growing up in a family where my father was an assistant principal I knew the importance of education, leadership and making decisions based on what was best and needed for students.  I knew early on I wanted to go into education and eventually administration.  Here I am twenty-eight years later.

My educational years have prepared me for many challenges.  I was an assistant principal at Pioneer Middle School, a classroom teacher in grades 3-8, Learning Specialist, Title I teacher, literacy coach and principal at Blue Ridge Elementary.  The diversity of my experiences has helped shape my identity as a leader and a learner.

My husband, Bob, and I have three grown daughters Madi (22), Katie Jo (21) and Olivia (18).  We have two very special grandbabies Isella (4) and Axcel (5 months).  Just know that if you come visit me either in my office or out and about I will have to show you pictures.  Bob and I are proud parents and grandparents. We are very family orientated and enjoy our time together.  I enjoy reading, running and spoiling the grandbabies! ☺

As the principal of Garrison Middle School, my philosophy of education is rooted in my conviction that “children are the focus of the schools” and that all decisions must be prioritized through this lens. I believe that the middle school years are a formative time of life where students continue to learn how to make positive choices and are critical to future academic success and therefore, hold students, staff and myself to high standards.  These standards are supported with my belief in listening, building relationships and clear communication.  As Dr. Brene Brown says, “Clear is kind.”

Garrison Middle School Staff believes:

  • All students can learn, achieve, and succeed given a physically and emotionally safe environment.
  • Parents, students, school staff and community share the responsibility for educating our youth.
  • Each student is a valued individual
  • Students learn when actively engaged in their learning process
  • Appropriate instructional strategies
  • Diversity is an opportunity
  • Learning is a lifelong process

Through these collective beliefs staff will be able to support our students in the 3R’s

  1. Respect
  2. Responsibility
  3. Do the Right thing

Educational success for all students cannot be complete without an effective partnership with all parents.  You are the most essential part of your children’s education, and it is important that we build a strong relationship in order to best serve your children’s educational needs.  Your input and involvement is greatly appreciated as we work to accomplish our school goals.

Our journey has begun! Together we will make a difference for ALL students at Garrison Middle School!  Stay connected through social media by following #TrooperProud and @KimDoepker on Twitter, Garrison Middle School on Facebook and www.garrisonmiddleschool.org school web page.

I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Sincerely,
Kim Doepker
